Planning is starting!

December 30, 2006

I am determined to be more streamlined, more successful and more productive in 2007. I am starting to read David Allen’s excellent book on Getting Things Done and aim to use the ideas in this and a desktop online application (or two) to help, + a Moleskine.

This looks something which may be useful…. a compact calendar for 2007 by David Seah.

Fantastic screensaver

December 30, 2006

Lotsawater is one of those cool things which makes you all warm and fuzzy inside (‘cos you own a Mac) (sorry Alan) 😉
It is a very sweet screensaver which emulates water on your desktop – go on, try it!!

Searching your Google Reader Feeds

December 30, 2006

I love Google Reader – total continuity on what I have read etc, wherever I am. One HUGE thing missing is search (strange for Google eh!??). However, if you fancy a little bit of work, have a look here and it tells you how do it. Basically you need to set up your own serach engine using Google Coop (damn clever) and you set it up to just search the sites you have in your feeds (so you export the opml file from Google Reader). Then a little script is installed in Firefox (you must have Grease Monkey)… and bingo, search!

Indiana Jones to return in 2008

December 30, 2006

Great news!! One of my fave film series of all time (along with Star Wars and also Harry Potter) 🙂
I must admit that there are few films that I will go out of the way to see at the cinema. The current home set up means that it is nearly as enjoyable, and when the HD films (whether Blu Ray or HD-DVD) arrive, well that could be the final trip to the cinema… Any thoughts?

Focus on 2007

December 27, 2006

Morning all! 🙂

Hope you are all having a great Christmas – we are!! This is just a quick post, but I wanted to flag up a superb post on the excellent lifehack.org website. It is looking forward to 2007 and the resolutions people will make…. From the post:

“Deficit thinking is an ingrained habit of focusing on gaps and weaknesses (the deficit) instead of what’s working (and can be made to work still better). It’s focusing on what you can’t do, not what you can. Instead of your dreams and ambitions propelling you forward, you let the gap between your current state and your desires become a source of frustration and depression. It’s the old business of seeing the glass as half empty”.

So, don’t get down about stuff you cannot and probably will not do (I bet these are things which you have been, and I admit it, me too, trying to change for years!). Instead look at the stuff you love and do brilliantly and try and leverage these to move forward!

How about you? 2007 is the year
